Nearby Attractions/City

Willcox Wineries

People often ask, why is this area so good for growing wine grapes and making wine? Three things: Elevation, climate, and soil. Put all together, it means the wines produced in the Willcox region carry their own unique Arizona signature and stand among the great wines made anywhere in the world. Summer days are warm and nights are cool, and that wide shift in daily temperatures imparts flavor to the grapes. Then the Arizona summer/fall monsoons introduce a unique twist to the growing season. And finally, the soils are generally rich alluvial and volcanic mixtures from the surrounding mountains. Try a glass yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

Sunsites

Sunsites is an attractive community that lies in the picturesque Sulphur Springs Valley, set against a verdant backdrop of apple, peach, pecan, pistachio orchards and grape vines. Almost anything grows in this favorable climate. Farm produce includes alfalfa, corn, chili peppers, pinto beans, and wheat. Bask in the warm hospitality of a local bed and breakfast to extend your time in this pleasant valley. Just to the west of town, the granite peaks of Cochise Stronghold – once refuge of the great Apache chief Cochise – holds phenomenal high-desert hiking trails.

Pearce

Pearce is home to the now-shuttered Commonwealth Mine, one of the state’s major silver producers from 1895 to 1942. But don’t pass it by – this ghost town is home to two properties in the National Register of Historic Places, the Old Pearce General Store (1896) and Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church (circa 1916). Several other historic adobe and frame structures – some intact, some in ruins – including an old cemetery that are scattered throughout town. It just takes a bit of imagination to picture what the town looked like in its heyday.

Kartchner Caverns

Boasting the world’s longest stalactite formation, Kartchner Caverns introduces visitors to the mysterious world of caves. Explore the bowels of a living cave and marvel at Arizona’s tallest natural column formation. Located in Southern Arizona, it’s just a short hop from nearby Benson.

Discovered in 1974, Kartchner Caverns is a massive limestone cave that’s home to many outstanding features, including remarkable minerals and formations as well as some winged friends. Take a guided tour for an intimate experience in this incredible underground world.
